Media Analysis of a TV Ad

The advertisement I used to do this TV ad analysis is a Hong Kong Pepsi ad in year 2000. The theme was held in an ancient Greek battle field. One of the ancient Greek Gods appeared-
Poseidon, and summoned the 7prince and 2 princess of Pepsi.

The Pepsi guardians combined their power together and formed a can of Pepsi. When one of the princes walked around the battle holding the can of precious Pepsi, a kid asked for his autograph. He hand the child the can of Pepsi so he can signed the autograph, but later realized that the boy snicked away with the Pepsi. They all went chasing after him. They help the boy defeat the thieves and the giant sculptures who were tempted to gulp down the Pepsi on the way the guardians chased the boy. They defeated their enemies and finally understand that the little boy was trying to save something very special drink for his precious friend.

They used not a large range of colours but the main characters have the similar colour of the product (Pepsi) so they can stand out (both actors and Pepsi) and made it look special. The composer of the ad tends to use a lot of point of view shots to show how much and how bad they want the product. They also used special 3D animated effect with mysteries and adventures ancient music as background music. As I mentioned it’s held outdoors on a battle field of ancient Greek, it is important because the background highlights the product well and making it looks important.

We/I noticed straight away what it’s advertising because of the obvious colours and the Pepsi symbol after the guardians (actors) do their attacks. The actors are quite famous pop stars through out Southeast Asia. So I also think the ad is appealed for teenagers.

I would rate this ad 9 out of 10. It is very interesting and sure makes me thirsty after I watch it. Although I think is can shorten the time a bit because some people would get bored after a while.

To watch this ad, go to youtube and search for “Pepsi commercial (full version)” and click on the first one*

Lit Circles (n_n)

a) Do you like it?
Yes, I actually like it quite well………well just that *someone* don’t really cooperate in our group properly. I mean, we get to do school work differently to normal English class and we get to discuss about it in a group, which is suppose to be more fun and interesting. It pushes and force(in a good way) the people who don’t like to read books. It might also help improving and practicing conversation.

b) Does your group work well together?
My group work well together, mostly. Sometimes, we space out a bit or get distracted easily by other groups or the *someone* in our group. After all, I got some quite cheerful group members in my group. We do pay attention at which others work and answer their questions sensibly. Most of us do do our homework and read the book so we can actually discuss about the book.

c) Does your answer to b affect your answer to a?!
Answer b do affect a little on my answer to a because cooperation is important when working in a group. If one does not concentrate, and also distract others from their work, I would find it irritating. But then again, I learned to hold my temper when people are annoying other in the group.

d) How could Lit Circles be improved?
I think Lit Circles can be improved when we get to read the book we placed 1st on our so-call ‘wish list’, or there is really much of a point to read something that you dislike and find boring. I also hope that we get more interesting roles.

^-^ That's all!?
